The National Business Angels Network claims that too many companies
go seeking equity investment without making any of the necessary
preparations....About 70% of small and medium-sized businesses that
approach the organisation are sent away through lack of preparation.
The key to where businesses are failing may be found in a recent
Canadian study of investors. It cites uninspiring business plans, a
lack of focus and the absence of a unique selling point as reasons why
smaller companies fail to succeeed in attracting finance.
Bernard Hallewell, the managing director of NBAN says "If you plump
for equity investment, then seeking expert help to produce a pleasing
package for potential investors is vital."
Richard Wilson, business policy executive at the Institute of
Directors, says your management team will be key to the campaign. "Time
and again businesses approach venture capitalists and business angels
with interesting ideas and plans but their management line is not in
existence."
